Create In Me A Clean Heart, Oh God!
Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
This month we celebrated Valentine's Day (or last month, I'm a day late in getting this published!). It's the one day that we go all out to show our love for others...our spouse, our children, our friends, and maybe even a complete stranger.
But did you ever stop to think about your own heart and the condition it is in?
Proverbs 27:19 says this, "As in water, face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man." What does your heart reflect about you? Better yet, what does your heart reflect about your relationship with Christ?
We need to explore what our hearts are like for the rest of the 364 days of the year and seek to allow God to change us so that it reflects less of us and more of Him.
I had a dream the other morning about Psalm 51, specifically the part that says "create in me a clean heart". When I woke up, my thoughts were right in the middle of the numerous times that I've failed God over and over again.
The majority of February's daily Bible reading was from the book of Exodus. It cites the countless times that the Israelites failed God because they got impatient, despite how many times He proved Himself to them...giving them manna to eat, providing quail when they were tired of manna, providing water out of a rock, guiding them with a cloud in the day and a pillar of fire at night, AND parting the Red Sea as a way of escape out of Egypt! Some of us might say, "I would never be like them if I saw those signs." But truth be told, we would probably do the same thing they did.
The Bible says that David was a man after God's own heart. That's what I want for us. For our hearts to reflect God's. It's so easy to fall into our sinful human nature, but the key is to stay in His Word and stay in prayer, so that we can walk in the spirit and not in the flesh.
Let us search our hearts and earnestly ask God to forgive us of our grumbling, murmuring, complaining, impatience and disobedience. Let our prayer be Psalm 51, not just today but every day, asking Him to create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit with us.
Be encouraged and be blessed!
